After
seeing Eliot Morris perform solo acoustic
a few times, the opportunity for a road
trip to Birmingham, AL in the middle of
the Chicago winter, for a full band show
was just too good to pass up.

Playing
at WorkPlay on December 29, 2004, Morris
and the band took the stage to open the
show with 'This Colorful World,' a catchy
new song, which, hopefully, finds a home
on his upcoming CD release. They followed
that up with 'The Moment You Believe,' an
inspiring song that encourages the listener
to move beyond their everyday comfort levels
and explore the world around them. 'No One
Has to Know,' a tale of hidden love affairs,
found a home early in the setlist, much
to the delight of Way Cool Music.

Bouncing
between up-tempo ditties like 'Coming Around'
and 'Anyway' and heart-felt, acoustic ballads
such as 'Infancy of Us,' Morris took the
crowd on a rollercoaster ride, making us
dance in our seats in one moment and long
for romance in the next. Between songs,
Morris entertained us with stories from
the studio, promising that progress is being
made and the new CD will see the light of
day in 2005. For long-time fans, this was
welcome news.

Morris
wrapped up the show with one of my favorite
of the new tunes, 'Bet You're Loving Me
Now,' the anthem for anyone who has been
taken for granted. I can imagine many musicians
relating to the story: you've been overlooked
by so many people, venues, and labels, but
once success comes around, you are suddenly
the center of attention. Those who once
ignored you, now find you irresistible.
"Cause I'm all the sudden something/When
up to now you never cared/You never found
me interesting/I never cared.../Bet you're
loving me now." Not only is the message
a great one, but I found myself humming
the tune for the rest of the night.

Way
Cool Music definitely enjoyed catching Morris
with the full band before the rest of the
world discovers him. You get the forbearing
feeling that before long, Morris will be
playing on the auditorium stages with thousands
of fans screaming his name. Hopefully, he
enjoyed this show as much as we did.
